Too cerebral: Kids need to learn how to work from a very early age -- clean up their room, clean up the kitchen before bed, iron their own clothes, vacuum the house, mow the lawn, learn to maintain a garden (where possible), learn how to paint their bedroom, learn basic handyman skills, wash the family car, do their own laundry, care for pet animals, have a paper route, shovel now, rake leaves, dig cars out of snow storms, et cetera, et cetera. They don't do these things anymore for the most part. It’s video games, TV, soccer, boy scouts, girl scouts, and so on. Those maybe fun and worthy activities for some, but knowing how to work is far more important. Kids first need to launch at home before they can launch away from home.

My 19 year old son has just left the UK for EFSC in Melbourne. He has truly been my best friend for years now and whilst I celebrate his achievement to get a college place in Florida, I literally feel lost without him in my life. We have spent so much time together over the years I find myself yearning for him. I never thought it would hit me like this and certainly would not want to tell him how much I'm missing him, but I hope this utter feeling of lose will eventually pass....I'm sobbing randomly during the day while driving and doing things around the house as I think of all the things we've done together over the years.
